I wonder if I could put forward a prayer request. Yesterday our pastor’s daughter was attacked and killed while out walking on the walking trails here in Edson.
Pastor Terry has posted on it on his blog.

The Edmonton Journal has a story on it here,

Please pray for pastor Terry Stauffer, his wife Juanita, and their children Josh, Petra and Anne, for the congregation of Edson Baptist Church, and for the Town of Edson AB, that God’s glory might be seen in these difficult times.
Thank you,
John K
Hello John - that is tragic indeed. I’ll post on it.
I guess this is just a question… this blog is linked from the Anglican Essentials website, and it bears the Anglican Essentials logo - but it seems to be overrun by ANiC. Now, recognizing the ANiC’s roots in Essentials, this is understandable. However, wouldn’t it be appropriate - considering that the ANiC has constituted itself as a separate body from the ACoC, and that Essentials is still a group within the ACoC - that the two would have separate blogs? Just an idea.
Hello Jonathan,
Well, “overrun” might not be a term I would use, but I take your point. Though, you do need to note that ANiC is, at least at this present time, very much a part of Anglican Essentials. Leaving the ACoC did not change that.
We would be glad to have somebody speak from an Essentials ‘Federation’ perspective, but have unfortunately found the response rather thin on the ground at present.
PS I am not ANiC, I am AEN (confused yet?) and not too far away from you
Peter,
I do remember meeting you not long ago. I wonder, then, at the wisdom of separate Network (specifically ANiC, rather than AEN) and Federation blogs. I guess that’s what I was trying to say - though I didn’t realize the importance of such clear terminological distinctions until last week at the Consultation in Toronto.
Do you want to publish Ron Corcoran’s sermon so poorly parsed by BBS?
Once again , it is unseemly that any Christian group would align itself with the like of Archbishop Peter Akinola of Nigeria , who pushed for laws in his country that are the most draconian anti-gay laws on the planet , including such items as imprisonment for two or more gay persons to be found in the same establishment at the same time ; such as dining in a restaurant. The logical conclusion is that conservative Anglican groups here in Canada would fully support such primitive laws here , also. It is likely only a matter of time before the Nigerian injustices are proposed as law here , by the religious right. The consequences of such a move will be historic. Along the same lines , I have launched an investigation into the practice of allowing nurses and student nurses who have graduated from , or are affiliated with ; conservative religious schools of nursing , access to homosexual patients in our hospitals. With their theological abhorrence of our state of being , can they be trusted with the lives they despise?
What Bishop Akinola actually did was support a softening of the laws against homosexuality that the Muslim governments of various Nigerian states proposed. As to your later point - all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. All life is precious to Him, no exceptions. I would expect the Christian nurses that you are so suspicious of would understand that better than most.
One does not have to read too closely between Bart’s lines to get the idea that it is he who would like to start taking away rights - the rights of those who don’t agree with him and his sense of morality. Heaven forbid that the nurses of whom he speaks would ever have to rely on his care as I suspect that he feels that society would be better off without them. Bart’s views are held by many in our society and the Christian church in Canada may start to suffer mild persecution in the near future. To some degree, this persecution may even be deserved as many who have claimed the title Christian have acted in a very unchristian manner (may God forgive me for my own failings in this regard). Our Lord has also called us to suffer for His name.
Moving farther into the realm of speculation, Bart likely believes (in good conscience no doubt) that his sense of morality is far more highly developed than that of those who superstitiously put their belief in an entity that they can’t even see. Of course, it is probable that he also believes that truth is relative and based on the current mores of society; which removes the logical foundation for belief in morality in the first place. All in all, a tired line that I hear repeated often; especially from the “new atheists”.
Bart, as Kate has pointed out, Christians should be the first to recognize that they fall far short of God’s requirements and must rely wholly on His grace for salvation. There is nothing that any of us can do to atone for our sinful, defiant and ungrateful behaviour in the face of a holy God; it is only through the death of His Son that we can be reconciled to Him. I do not deny that, in my flesh, I may despise someone else (my sinful nature at work), and I must turn to God and rely on the Holy Spirit to see that person for who they really are - a creation of God and someone who, in God’s eyes, may be less sinful than I. I am called to love them as myself and, if I don’t, I can’t rightfully claim to be a follower of Christ or expect God to forgive my sins.
Many apologies for such a long comment on a thread such as this. Maybe it’s an addiction. Feel free to remove as you see fit.

Hi everyone:
For those of you who are interested in debating Canadian Anglican issues, I invite you all to join us at:

Greg (#12), are you trying to start a war? From skimming several comments, it appears that my Christian presuppositions and world view have little in common with the regulars on the list.
More importantly, the mechanization of the Canang list reminds me of something from the early 90s. It would be like going from Vista back to DOS. Way too painful for me. Also, I can tell up front that any comment I would make would be rejected by the regulars. That means I would be engaging in polemics. I don’t mind doing so, but, if I’m going to go to the effort to construct an apologetic argument, I want to post it where it might get a little more exposure. Change your format and I might drop by.
