From here, bold mine. … For all these reasons, the group of Primates who met in Dublin cannot be recognized as acting in accord with the accepted Communion understanding of the Primates’ Meeting as an Instrument of Communion. This Instrument thus joins the others as now being dysfunctional and lacking in communion credibility. The role [...]

From George Conger. Read it all here: A meeting of the leaders of 23 of the Communion’s 38 provinces has produced a draft agreement diminishing the primates’ role as an instrument of unity for the Anglican Communion.  The primates meeting is to be restructured into a pan-Anglican fellowship for conversation, with a goal of “acknowledging [...]

Read it all here, certain parts excerpted: … Q: What was your overall impression of the meeting? A: I think the meeting went very, very well. We had a superb facilitation team who managed the process for us. We had considerable time-sharing with one another about the nature and exercise of the primacy in our [...]

FYI, there’s the final update here, podcast here. Nothing particularly interesting in what was said, though perhaps there was something more interesting in what was not said, or shown for that matter. The Covenant was conspicuously absent in the deliberations of the Primate’s meeting, as was any particular mention that 2/3 of the Communion was [...]

I didn’t think it worth copying the text, as it seems like navel gazing as to what a Primate is and does. The closest thing of interest was: The question was raised, though not addressed in plenary, about how far Primates had a role in safeguarding the life of the Communion as a whole. Which [...]

The Rev. Dr. Andrew Goddard’s perspective on the Primates’ meeting. Read it all here: It is a biblical principle that we reap what we sow. The actions of North American provinces since 2003, the actions in response from other provinces and the actions (and subsequent inaction) of Primates’ Meetings have reaped quite a whirlwind. Whatever [...]

Read it all here. I excerpt a few paragraphs that might be of particular interest. I agree that the times today need Orthodox Anglicans from around the world to lead. We’ve been reactive for 10 years now and need to take the lead and look at a gathering of Bishops and Primates. The Global South [...]

From the Global South website. 21st January 2011 There have been various interests and concerns expressed about the absence of some Global South Primates at the forthcoming Dublin Primates’ Meeting. Where these Primates are concerned, arriving at such decision was not a sudden or knee-jerk reaction. Both before, and more so after, The Episcopal Church [...]

Read the ACI article here. It starts off strongly, but then reads more as a group discussion between parties with different perspectives… The Dublin gathering of Primates—is it a “Primates’ Meeting” when so many are not attending?—is soon to happen. Many are the views on whether conservative Primates should attend, and the reasons pro and [...]

Gay marriage liturgy

Thought you might find the examination of this liturgy side-by side illuminating. While it might apply to TEC, it’s just as appropriate to what is occurring our side of the border. One bit that did strike home personally was this: The Pastoral introduction makes three significant adaptions from the 1979 prayer book service. First, it [...]

Find it all here. What might be of particular interest….. 5. For the sake of Christ and of His Gospel we can no longer maintain the illusion of normalcy and so we join with other Primates from the Global South in declaring that we will not be present at the next Primates’ meeting to be [...]

Update:  The diocese has an official statement on this here. Bishop Ingham wants the ANiC priests to vacate and the congregations to stay under new priests which he will select. In other words, an invitation for parishioners to betray their principles and their priests. From here: METRO VANCOUVER — Neither side in a long, bitter [...]

From here. The Archbishop of Canterbury has proposed suspending the Primates Meeting—the fourth ‘instrument of unity’ in the Anglican Communion—in favour of holding multiple small group gatherings of like minded archbishops. In a letter to the primates dated Oct 7, Dr. Rowan Williams suggested that given the “number of difficult conversations” and the threat of [...]

It looks as if Church of England parishes that convert to Rome may be able to stay in their buildings. This is a rather more gracious attitude than that of the Anglican Church of Canada, which for the most part,  has adopted a litigate and pillage policy towards parishes that have left for ANiC. From [...]

From here: Four Anglican archbishops, including an American, have outlined the crisis in the Anglican Communion and have concluded that orthodox Anglicans worldwide can no longer accept the leadership of Dr. Rowan Williams. They drew a distinction between the Archbishop of Canterbury and the See of Canterbury which goes back to St. Augustine – an [...]
