To counteract the vile rumours of litigation that nasty cruel people will keep spreading and to prove that it is truly warm and cuddly, the Diocese of Niagara has embarked on a campaign of gratuitous hugging.

It makes me tingle all over just to watch it:

No thank you. That just feels kind of creepy.

    Father Lawrence Winslow says:

I guess hugs are fine within the Christian family as a sign of the imparting of Christians Love within the True Family of God. But the idea of “selling faith” with hugs is clear evidence of the decrepit condition of the heretical Diocese of Niagara.

Actually I thought it was pretty neat until I came to the end were it advertised “more hugs …. go to the Web site.” It was than that I was dissapointed that the participants were not giving free hugs to further the cause of Jesus Christ but rather they were just making an advertisement.

It makes me want to throw up, but then I never was much of a romantic…
    :-D

I’m unconvinced that the intended result of the hugging was romance – but I could be wrong and, if so, pass the sick bag.

Of course, had I known about this in advance, I would have shown up, arms wide, to see how sincere the offer really was.

What a great way of spreading disease.

    Frank Wirrell says:

This type of hug is nothing less than having a pickpocket giving you a hug so he can steal your wallet – a hug to deceive you by thinking apostasy is just fine and that we are really friends. If that were so – something which is impossible – there would be no action by the dioceses of Niagara and New Westminster to seize the properties of orthodox parishes.

Niagara Diocese ripped the idea off a guy in Sydney Australia who calls himself ‘Juan Mann’ (ie. ‘One man’) in. He did it in 2004. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Hugs_Campaign

Nothing new here for Niagara Diocese…just hopelessly late on the scene. And if that’s their *best* idea, then Niagara Diocese is in even bigger trouble than I already thought they were in.

You guys are just nasty. Exchanging a wonderful symbol of peace and hospitality is a beautiful thing.

    Kate says:

The point is the contrast between “free hugs” and the way Niagara is treating ANiC parishes.

#11 Eph – Hypocrisy can be a “beautiful thing” if it works. It seldom flys on this blog. Abe Lincoln said you can fool some of the people all the time and all the people some of the time….but you can’t fool all the people all the time. Free hugs from members of an organization that says Sexual deviation and promiscuity is AOK has just got to be suspect. Besides isn’t it kinda putting the cart before the Horse?

    Hello Eph.
Hugs are indeed a very nice thing, if given in genuine kindness and affection. The issue I have with this action from the DoN is that bit at the end of the video that makes it perfectly clear that this is nothing short of an act of “marketing”. Nothing about the Word of God, the Salvation that can be obtained only through Jesus Christ, nor that we should give up our sinful ways and follow Him. Just this…
For more hugs, “step into my parlour said the spider to the fly”.

It’s all biblical, after all, Judas gave Jesus a kiss.
