In a country characterized by the current judicial system (especially that in BC) along with the likes of the left-wing liberals and the NDP, our continued freedom will most definitely be by the Grace of Almighty God!
I am totally shocked that any conservative Anglican (or Chrisitan for that matter) can, in good conscience, vote NDP.
The party is replete with anit-religious and anti-life zealots. I cannot conceive how someone who claims to be a champion of biblical authority would support such an organization.
The “Left” is pro-secular, pro-radical feminist, pro-same-sex marriage. The NDP oppose almost every wholesome value this blog perports to represent.
I would suggest you reflect on the values you claim to hold dear.
Sorry Eph 3:20 but my wife and a lot of her friends (all Christians) have also generally voted NDP as the only party that stands up for the disabled and elderly. The fact is that there is no “Christian” party and trumpeting the conservatives as such is not a good idea lest we go down the path of the US where in many evangelical circles being a Christian means that you must always vote for a particular party.
Eph, I will give your comment all the attention it deserves.
That having been said, let’s keep politics out of this thread from now on, please. We are not a Canadian copy of Stand Firm, we don’t do politics here. Any more political posts and I will lock it.
Eph 3:20, your comments will be held for moderation until you show that you can follow the rules. I think it’s a shame to lock a fun thread because one person can’t behave.
So, what did you folks do on Canada Day? We went to the hill to try to catch a glimpse of the Queen, but we didn’t get there early enough. There was lots of fun people watching – especially a busker playing drums and a toddler dancing to the beat. It was very sweet.
David, it would be interesting to have a thread sometime to discuss what Eph 3:20 wants to get into. From the little I read, his arguments are emotional and not based in logic – but he didn’t have much opportunity to connect the dots.
I got to spend Canada Day at a fancy garden party at which Senator Pamela Wallin was the guest of honour. It was a nice day and a nice time.
Thing is, Warren, none of us wants the headache of moderating that particular discussion. (Without a substantial pay raise – wait a minute, twice nothing is still nothing… Oh well.)
Warren [#11],
It might be interesting, but I’m not sure that the AEC blog is the place for it. This kind of thing usually ends up as a bit of a bun fight that has little to do with Christianity: we all tend to think that our faith reliably informs our politics. But the truth is, the only one who is correct about that is me.
My comments are very logical from my vantage point and I would welcome a thread that devoted attention to it. I believe one’s religious views ought to inspire their political ones. To me they are inseperable. But I will honour the moderator’s request and avoid any contentious debate on the matter.
David and Kate, no doubt you’re right. It would probably be better suited to Stand Firm where folks seem to enjoy bashing each other. What got me thinking in this direction was a couple of C.S. Lewis essays I read earlier this week where he strays into the issue of Christians and politics.
Warren, I think I probably read one of those, was it: “Meditation on the third commandment”? Anyways, back on topic: Canada Day was spent with my family at the new natural history museum in Ottawa. Our 3 year simultaneously loved and was scared of the dinosaurs!
In our country politics is becoming intertwined with religion in a biased and difficult way. I understand how this blog is dedicated to essentials and Anglican happenings and wishes to maintain a civil and level headed dialogue. The politics of this country are biased and need to be examined periodically in light of the purposeful diminishing of the light of the one true God.
Kate I feel that you erred in your #4. It was wrong of you to begin with a political statement and then say “Lets keep politics out of this thread, shall we?” Do what you will with this.
Watching this sniping at one another and censoring comments while you go-on about freedom, and reading you dis-ing Stand Firm because they bash one another is rather amusing.
My apologies to the regulars, but I have to admit to a sort of perverse admiration for R.M. Bruton’s canny ability to pop up at the right time on various forums and insert pithy zingers without ever pausing to engage in dialogue. He certainly rises above the fray of run-of-the-mill trolls.
Mr. Bruton sniping or admonishment? your description leaves out the element of following Christ. For the most part participation in this blog can get heated but it is very easy to separate the wheat from the chaff; as in your case.
Eph 3:20,
Probably because the moderators have better things to do than sit at their computers night and day waiting for yet another person to start a political discussion: you will note that your last comment is intact, too.
And a happy Canada Day to you also. We are truly blessed to live in a land of freedoms and abundance. By the Grace of God may it be ever so.

Freedom in the post modern era can only be found in Christ Jesus.
#2 I often vote NDP. Lets keep politics out of this thread, shall we?

Comment removed. This is not a blog for discussing politics – David.
Ditto – David.

Canada is a great country, unfortunately gay marriages are legal now. I love my Canada, but I still oppose gay weddings.

We went for a walk along the lake – the real one. And I didn’t think about politics at all.

19 David read Kate’s #4 again please.

R.M. Bruton (#23), given your specialization and skill in sniping, it is noteworthy that this thread has attracted your attention.
Warren,
I rest my case.

Gerry O’Brien has made two references to the CHP. But why are his comments not censored but mine are? A bit unfair if you ask me.

Happy Canada Day.
I give up. This thread is locked. NO POLITICS on these boards. Period. Stuck, the politics topic was introduced in #2 and I closed it in #4.
RM Burton? You have revealed yourself as a troll. Off to the comment moderation you go.
