An article in the Anglican Planet on the ANiC synod, by Sue Careless:
In 1978 TREVOR WALTERS was ordained ‘a deacon in the Church of God” in magnificent Salisbury Cathedral in England. A year later Charlie Masters was ordained a priest in Christ Church cathedral in Hamilton. In 1985, Stephen Leung was ordained a priest in St. John the Evangelist Cathedral in Hong Kong, the oldest Anglican church in the Far East. On Nov. 13th all three were consecrated as “bishops in the Church of God” in a borrowed facility, a modern community church set amidst southern Ontario vineyards in rural St. Catharines. Without any benefit of stained glass or (neo)gothic architecture, the service was still one of solemn beauty and great power.

The synod had a remarkable vigour and joy considering several of its congregations are awaiting court rulings on property disputes with the ACC. (A separate account is kept for its legal defence fund.) Nor was there any mention of same-sex blessings or the ordination of non-celibate gay clergy, which had been two of the sticking points precipitating their separation from the ACC. “Mission-minded” and “gospel sharing” seemed to be the order of the day — summarized in their newly adopted mission statement: “building biblically faithful, gospel sharing, Anglican churches.”
