Behaving in Public: Christian Engagement in Public Life - Dr. John Stackhouse
Sep 10th, 2009 by Kate
If you are in Ottawa on the 23rd, we’d love to see you there!
Wednesday, September 23rd, 7:00pm
St. Alban’s Anglican Church // 454 King Edward Ave.
This lecture offers clear, scholarly perspective on the role of Christianity in modern societies. It then provides focused, practical advice about how Christians can properly engage in public life today, whether as a parent concerned about a local school, a voter concerned about federal politics, or a citizen concerned about the ways Christianity is presented in the media. (This lecture is based in part on Dr. Stackhouse’s book, Making the Best of It: Following Christ in the Real World [Oxford University Press].)
John G. Stackhouse Jr. is Professor of Theology and Culture at Regent College (Vancouver, BC). His commentary on religion and culture has been featured in many North American news sources such as ABC, NBC, CBC, CTV, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Maclean’s, The Globe and Mail, and The National Post. John also regularly addresses church and parachurch leaders on the practice of ministry in contemporary Canadian society. He is author of several books, including Humble Apologetics: Defending the Faith Today (Oxford), and Church: An Insider’s Look at How We Do It (Baker).

His blog is also available here.

Having heard him speak–most notably as an expect witness for ANiC in the court case in Vancouver but in other situations too–I heartily recommend going to hear John Stackhouse to everyone. (Young people will relate well too. Mine do.)
Too bad the lecture isn’t one week later - I could take it in then. Is anything going on at St Alban’s on Tue, Wed or Thu of the following week?
I don’t think so, unfortunately. Too bad you aren’t here on a Sunday! You should stop by the church and say hello, there is always someone around during the day.
Re#1: I mean ‘expert’. Though you can fairly ‘expect’ him to be excellent!
(Took me almost a week to notice that mistake. Oh my!)
I didn’t notice it either….
In my personal opinion Dr. Johnathan Stackhouse is one of the most efficient and prolific writers that i have ever seen~head strong yes, only due to his brilliance and profeciency. If i lived in the Canada area–in which i love…i would seek him out just to hear him speak once in awhile-if not often. A lovely man with a world of Knowledge and well grounded. An excerpt of dear Johnathan isn’t even the word….
he reminds me distinctly of my son Jeremiah John Klingensmith…another Oxford University Kingsmen–stable in all he does, thinks, and writes~and than critques of course…adorable
