Primates Panel Q & A

Some notes from the Primates Panel Q & A from last night (not a complete transcript):

Attending:
Archbishop Elect Bob Duncan (ACNA)
Bishop Tito Zavala (Southern Cone)
Archbishop Benjamin Nzimbi (Kenya)
Bishop Alfred Nwaizuzu (Nigeria)
Bishop Tak Meng Wong (SE Asia)

Q1) What specific questions do you have for the new province to be more effective in mission and evangelism?

A1) Southern Cone: You have been fighting for a long time for a new province. This is a new time, now is the future. You are moving from maintenance to mission. Now you need to grow, and preach the good news of Jesus Christ. New people bring new people. ACNA is full of energy and vision. Fight for the sake of the gospel. This is not our work, but the work of Jesus Christ.

Q2) What sort of response do you expect to the launch of ACNA?

A2) Kenya: What is happening here is something new. There is going to be lots of responses from different places – some will support, others will not. I will begin with the support….

You are supported by many Bishops and Provinces that know the aim of the new province is to preach the gospel as we have received it. We are standing with you as you are standing with Christ. We want to hear the gospel being preached as we have received it.

There are four instruments of unity in the Anglican Communion – the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Lambeth Conference, the Anglican Consultative Council and the Primates’ Meeting. Nothing has worked very well – no action. We are meant by the Lord to take action. Some of the Bishops will not take what we are doing kindly. However we are going ahead. “When you pass through the waters I will be with you”. God is with us.

Most provinces in Africa will acknowledge what you are doing.

SE Asia: It is a joy to see different groupings come together. You are making a historical and apostolic stand.

Q3) Will we be allowed to use the 1928 BCP?

A3) ACNA: Yes. Canons are clear that all liturgies currently in use can be used in ACNA.

Q4) Any advice for orthodox Bishops in revisionist Provinces?

A4) ACNA: Stand firm!

Q5) Will there be a GAFcon 2?

A5) Kenya: We would like to see one soon. Perhaps in 3-5 years time.

Q6) How about other social issues other than the ones that have high publicity?

A6) ACNA: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ (Matthew 25 v35-36)” This is the heart of our response to social issues.
