Yes, the canons were changed last year to include this clause. It was stated that this was to make explicit “what had always been implicit.”

I believe that cannon was added after other parishes separated (correct me if I am wrong, please). Rather like closing the door after the horse has left.

I think the careful compliance phrase is intended to refer to the voting procedures and location of the meeting rather than the object of the vote.

To say that the congregational vote to separate was held in “careful compliance” with the diocesan canons is a bit rich given that DioBC Canon 6.1 states: “As no parish has existence except as part of the Diocese of British Columbia, no parish has the competence to separate itself from the Diocese of British Columbia.”

Would that the bishops who claim to be orthodox would have the same courage and fortitude and show similar leadership. Their failure to do so shows they are not qualified for their position(s) and that includes Fred Hiltz. Until they do so they should not be referred to as “Bishop(s)” as they are clearly renouncing their vows.
