"New wine in old wine skins" Spot on Irena!
So the ACoC will continue the blessings and the law suits and TEC will continue their lawsuits and their marriage liturgies and we are to give up spreading the Gospel. This is gracious restraint?
Evangelism is in the church DNA of our members. To agree to stop it, is to deny who we are and to put the Gospel on hold.
And for what? Another opportunity for Rowan to organize an Indaba?
I am deeply disappointed.
Peace,
Jim

# 1 Peter: Amen to your post.

I wonder if the apostles would have been happy with "a professionally mediated conversation at which all the significant parties could be gathered"? Or would they have complied with the injunction "not [to] seek to recruit and expand their membership by means of proselytisation?"

As if the living Gospel can be contained like this! Talk about putting new wine in old wineskins!

It could be used as the foundational charter of "why I don't want to be an Anglican" movement.

I'd have to hope it wasn't actually written by the primates, or at least not the GS primates, as it has all the power and impact of a limp handshake.

Stuff like this "Therefore, we request the Archbishop of Canterbury to initiate a professionally mediated conversation which engages all parties at the earliest opportunity." is to be honest quite pathetic, and if they really had nothing better to do than release this kind of stuff, then why bother meet at all?

Well, this sounds like an ACO release, so perhaps it was, perhaps the GS primates let this one pass because really it does not matter much any more. I confess I'm ambivalent about the lack of a motion to recommend ACNA to the ACC for membership, after all, I have to wonder what the benefits of being an official card carrying member of the Anglican Communion actually are?
