Please Pray

August 2008 – 1st Friday call to prayer
Network prayer calendar – August 2008
Prayer for Lambeth
Please join me in praying for our Primate, Archbishop Greg Venables, and the other orthodox bishops at Lambeth. They need wisdom far beyond their own as they navigate subtle (and not-so-subtle) political undercurrents. May they keep their eyes on Jesus. May there be renewed unity among those who are seeking to build God’s kingdom. May they be protected from the wiles of the Evil One. Above all may God be glorified as He is lifted up.

Psalm 42: 1-5, Psalm 43:1-5 (ESV)
As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”
These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival.
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause against an ungodly people, from the deceitful and unjust man deliver me! For you are the God in whom I take refuge; why have you rejected me? Why do I go about mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling! Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God.
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

Pray for Zacchaeus Fellowship at Lambeth
Please also pray for Zacchaeus Fellowship – especially the Rev Dawn McDonald and the Rev Don Alcock – who are bearing witness to the power of God to transform lives. They have a booth within the Lambeth “Marketplace”, a venue that is, according to reports, dominated by groups which are promoting the Church’s acceptance and blessing of unbiblical lifestyles. They have been treated badly by conference organizers – hidden in a back corner, when they were promised a prominent spot for their booth, and denied having their material included in the packages provided to bishops attending the conference despite initial promises to the contrary. (See Anglican Mainstream for more information.)
Pray that God will bring people to them. That He will use their testimony in a powerful way at Lambeth. That those manning other booths in the Marketplace who need to hear Dawn and Don’s testimony will come by their booth. And that lives will be radically transformed as people who have been enslaved to sin are set free to serve God. Pray for strength and grace and spiritual protection for all involved with the Zacchaeus booth at Lambeth.

Give thanks to God for the witness of the Zacchaeus Fellowship at Lambeth. The booth has now been turned over the Prayer Book Society who agreed to take it over for the last few days. Despite the challenges, 748 of the Transformed by His Grace booklets were distributed (I understand almost all bishops received a copy, 2 were left for samples, and 250 returned home). Contacts were made with bishops in the Sudan and other parts of Africa. The booth at the back of the hall allowed more intimate conversations, I understand, than might have been possible at the main entrance. TBTG
