Many years ago, I had a friend whom I have now lost touch with. He was a nuclear physicist who had escaped from communist Czechoslovakia (actually the nuclear physicist). I don’t like communism, but he hated it; he would regale me with tales of the propaganda machine, neighbours – and even family members – betraying each other, midnight visits from the secret police and a generally dreary life of oppression and mistrust. One of the propaganda techniques was to take a lie that was utterly outrageous and repeat it over and over until people started to believe it. I’m not sure how successful it was, but obviously there are those who think it’s worth giving the technique another try:
Dr Jefferts Schori was speaking at a press conference in Salisbury on Monday… She was confident about the future of the Anglican Communion, saying that it “has more and stronger relationships than it did ten years ago”.
You can read it all here
This was one small example that popped into view. There are so many others flourishing in the fertile ground of decaying liberalism, that one can trip over dozens each day while scarcely missing a step. Perhaps it is working.

“Four legs good, two legs bad. Four legs good, two legs bad. Four…”

It was Joseph Goebbels who most famously said that if you repeat a lie often enough, people will eventually start to believe it. He used the technique very successfully in Nazi Germany.
