Lenten study on mission

From here:

Anglicans across Canada will be invited to “help shape the mission priorities” for 2010 to 2019 of General Synod, the governing body of the Anglican Church of Canada, by participating in a voluntary, congregation-based Lenten study next year. The study will allow participants to share their vision for their church’s work.

Well, OK, but I would reiterate my question – what does ‘mission’ mean? Looking at the parties that are all over this, I don’t find myself feeling particularly hopeful. Seems to be another extended meeting to talk about mission, rather than actually getting on with it!

I find it interesting that the ACoC is all over “mission” right now. Is it an attempt to divert our attention from the crisis and division in the Canadian Anglican church at this present moment? I’m afraid I fear it is. Yes mission is important but my definition of mission might be very different from other folk as I believe it is “to make Christ known” and I’m not sure we all “know” the same Christ Jesus.

I think the ACoC could learn a few things from Mark D. Roberts’ series on The Mission of God and the Missional Church. Why do I think, however, that they have something else in mind?

Maybe the ACoC will steal a page from the CoE playbook and discuss whether or not there is any need to share the gospel.
