It’s not that we are slacking much more than usual, but rather that other than jumble sales etc, there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of Canadian Anglican news out there at the moment.
Which probably means that somebody is nefariously plotting something, somewhere….
Feel free to post comments on any particularly iniquitous plots below.

You having a boring day at work, Peter?
Displacement activity
Brandon has a new Deacon, but apparently it wasn’t important enough to tell anyone. And I preach for the first time June 1 and pray for the church in the Essex deanery voting soon to realign.
The new Canadian Tire flyer arrived today…
Joseph… anything good in it?
The Prayer Book Society has a slew of nefarious plots on the go just to keep the Essentials bunch off balance. Does that rate?
Jim - there is a nice Dewalt cordless drill. I could really use that to upgrade the deck…
Speaking of plots.
Read what happened to the local Niagara PBSC branch. Page 20 of the new June issue of the Niagara Anglican.
#8 Could you give me the Reader’s Digest version, please?
Really? Ok then.
The short version is the branch has a new executive, all between the ages of 16 and 29 from churches throughout the diocese. All male BTW.
The new president is Alex Urquhart from Dunnville and the youngest member of the Order of Niagara. He will be representing the society at Lambeth 2008 too.
Is that short enough for you?
Jim.. don’t get the Dewalt.
I’ve just cleaned up my office and found a rosary that I’d thought lost forever. In fact, I replaced with one almost exactly the same, from Lourdes, several weeks ago.
Also, we’re having BBQ hamburgers tonight, so if anyone wants to pop round for dinner, you better get a move on.
Other than that, watch the horizon, it’s gonna get interesting.

So, anybody here seen “Prince Caspian”? If not, I highly recommend it. It’s an impressive film visually and also very true to the spirit (if not always the letter) of Lewis’s book.
“So, anybody here seen “Prince Caspian”?”
Yes - it was brilliant.
I’m going to CoGS tomorrow. Pray for me!
Anyone else notice that Daley’s initials look awfully similar to the acronym for the Millennium Development Goals? I’m just sayin’…
I haven’t seen it yet, but I thought, from the trailers, that the actor who played Caspian was much too old. Wasn’t he supposed to still be a teenager?
Or Miller Genuine Draft. Will you raise one with me!!
Have a great night everyone!!
Miller? Ew, Guiness for me, please! Or Morte Subite…
Kate, Me too but I thought I would play along!!
You’re right, Kate, Caspian’s supposed to be a kid in the book, and then an adult in “Dawn Treader”. I think the film makers decided to go with one actor instead of two for the role, and make him adult for both.
Sadly, though it’s a terrific movie it is underperforming at the box office, and will likely be crushed by “Indiana Jones” this weekend. So spread the word! Maybe even get a church group together and go see it! We Christians keep saying we want entertainment that reflects our values instead of Hollywood’s. Here’s a chance to put our money where our mouth is!
Hummm… Good thought. Have they put both Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Prince Caspian together in this movie? Do you think it is too scary for a five year old?
Ross, you have our prayers!
Pray for our Home Group, meeting tonight.
No, Dawn Treader will be a separate movie — though the success or failure of this movie may affect its chance to be filmed. . .
I can’t think of anything in this movie that would be traumatic for a small child — there are battle scenes and some violence, but it’s the tame bloodless kind typical of kids’ adventure flicks. And there are a few minor “scares” like animal attacks and chase scenes with armed soldiers, but nothing brutal or gruesome. Kids will love the child heroes and the talking animal characters are delightful. The main problem with this movie for younger kids will be the length: at two and a half hours it may be hard for some of them to sit through.
If you decide not to take the kids, consider going yourself: it’s well worth the price of admission. I’m going to go again this week, with my mother.
Joe - big Dewalt tool sale at Home Depot & really enjoying your pictures from Turkey.
Happy Birthday Israel !!! even though the Anglican Journal treated it as a tragedy with the Kairos press release - those who bless Israel will be blessed & those who curse Isreal …
The Diocese of New West. is featuring Marion Best former UCC moderator & SSB ubber enforcer at the upcoming Synod. Looks like more social justice & ecumenical committee stuff.
Lets get on with it !! Start a cell group or Bible study !!
St. George’s
Their sermon from the first service at Crossroads is now posted on their website.
It was good live -and better upon reflection.
Peace,
Jim
Agreed on Prince Caspian. (The book is still better, of course.) I also just read C. S. Lewis’ An Experiment in Criticism, another splendid (yet short) book.
Interesting, that, about the Niagara PBSC. Wonder how a campus BCP club would go over? (Just kidding.)
Well, I haven’t been keeping an eye on things much, because I am too excited about what my family and I will be doing in June and July. Here’s a hint:

Sounds like fun. How dare you miss Toronto and the Niagara Region - Niagara Falls, the wineries, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Church of the Good Shepherd Anglican Network in Canada? You could stay with us.
And going through the mountains from Calgary to Vancouver is spectacular. I wouldn’t miss that.
By the way, if you do come to St. Catharines in the Niagara Region, please visit the correct Church of the Good Shepherd. There were two ads in the St. Catharines Standard newspaper for Church of the Good Shepherd. One was for the 8:30 am diocesan service, though the ad didn’t say Diocese of Niagara. The other ad was for the 9 am and 10:30 am service held by the Church of the Good Shepherd Anglican Network in Canada at Beacon Christian High School, 300 Scott St., St. Catharines. Services will be there for the indefinite future.
Hi Andrew,
You know, I think I might try and start a campus BCP society at MT. A. in New Brunswick. There are a few active Anglicans who love the prayer book too.
What, no blogging through June and July Kate? Did you run that by d’management first?
Kate, It looks like you’ll pass within a day’s drive of Whitehorse. (Well, either one long day or two reasonable days.) If you have time for a small
detour, stop in for a visit. We’ll be here until late August.
#30 - I grew up in T.O., and my sister still lives there. That part of the world isn’t new to us, you see….
As far as Whitehorse goes, I’ll have to run that past the Master Trip Planner (aka Bill in Ottawa, my Other Half)
Okay, I’ve got a question that may generate some discussion. I haven’t attended an Anglican service since I was a child more than 30 years ago, a wedding and a funeral excepted. In fact, I haven’t been a regular churchgoer at all in twenty years. In my neck of the woods (somewhere in NS) the Anglican church is probably pretty mainstream liberal but I can’t swear to it. Given that there’s no conservative alternative, would people say give the local Anglicans a try or look elsewhere? (I’m not a troll; I seriously wonder what people think.)
More no-news from slightly north of the middle of no-where. My first sermon is done, +Malcolm says its ok, will I pack ‘em in or drive them out?, film at 11. My replacement b-certificate hasn’t arrived from the Republic of Quebec. Apparently the old one isn’t good enough to get a passport so I can go to the states and get my new ham station before the loonie plunges again.
Steve:
I guess that means you didn’t make it to Dayton?
I was sort of irked to have been so close (Pittsburgh) for the week-end, but it was worth it to spend some time with good friends, good wine and good food….I guess.
Kate,
Which direction are you travelling? Either way it looks like you will be going right through Edson (halfway between Edmonton and Jasper). You would have to go out of your way to avoid it.
Love to meet somehow. E-mail me if you like.
OK, not a thing of importance happened but that generated more responses than let’s say the Pope proposing marriage to Bp Schori.
Mike, requires a Gold Card and a totally understanding wife, ready to stay up late contest weekends and keep sandwiches and coffee coming and happy to see another high priced toy grace my desk, and more aluminum sprout in the yard. Looking at the FT9000 got the response ‘14 HOWMUCH?’
#32 — I guess you’ll just have to cut my pay, then, won’t you?
#38 - Tried to email you via the address you registered with and it bounced. I’m at kate dot sanderson2 at gmail dot com.
Whoops, I said 39 before, I meant 38.
#35 Chuck - you can’t easily tell. There are still lots of lower-case c conservative parishes. You can check the clergy against the Elmhurst list, and sound some people out.
Chuck (#35), conservative and liberal are convenient terms that have use in certain contexts, but they mean different things to different people. I suggest that you seek out a church where the people love Jesus and desire to share the good news of the gospel, and where God’s Word is faithfully taught. This may be an Anglican church, or it may be a church of a different denomination. I don’t believe that God cares about denominational labels nearly as much as He cares about the hearts and intentions of the people who seek to worship Him. I would also respectfully suggest that an Internet forum may not be the best place to seek advice on finding a church. You need to visit churches in your area and talk to pastors. Let us know how it goes.
#41, sigh - regretfully that may need to be the case. You leave me no choice, in fact it is my fuduciary duty to do so. As well I may - regretfully of course - have to take this issue to the courts - in all Christian love and charity etc etc
#45 - and again I say, ppphhtttt!
Stand Firms Greg Griffith just posted this:
Anglicans in the Diocese of Huron, which includes churches in Waterloo Region, are getting ready to vote on whether to bless the civil marriages of homosexual couples.
About 300 clergy and lay delegates are planning to debate the highly contentious issue on Monday afternoon during the diocese’s synod in London, Ont.
One of the motions on the agenda asks the bishop to “grant permission to clergy, whose conscience permits, to bless the duly solemnized and registered civil marriages between same-gender couples, where at least one party is baptized . . . .”
The motion also asks the bishop to authorize the creation of an appropriate ritual for such blessings.sted this:
Kate,
It your are in Edmonton on a Sunday St.Paul’s on 145 St and Stony Plain Road is the church that you want to attend if you are wondering
Do visit the Musum, Fort Edmonton and avoid West Edmonton Mall tho your Children would probably enjoy Fantsy Land
If you like please send me a e-mail
Have Fun
#46 D’yall see what I have to put up with?
(puts on longsuffering and slightly mournful martyr look)
#35 Chuck,
Right off the top of my head, look for one that does the Alpha course.
Chuck,
Sorry. Here’s a link to see if there is a course near you. There are more Baptist churches than Anglican doing the course now, but hopefully you can find one there.
Thanks for the replies to my question. Warren, you’re right that the internet isn’t the place to go looking for a church. In fact, that wasn’t quite what I was asking. I’m just attracted to Anglicanism and thought, given the nature of this forum, that some people might have opinions on the church for someone who had been away from it for a long time. In fact, most of my childhood and youth was spent in the Wesleyan tradition and that’s most likely where I’d end up but I thought I’d toss the question out here. To Henry and John, thanks for your thoughts. No Alphas around here anywhere.
#49 - Pauvre petit!
