From here. I know, it’s the liberal press, so what can you expect, but still….

SINCE Canada is a generally liberal-minded place (a good thing), it is no surprise that Anglicans there are among the prime advocates of blessing homosexual unions (another good thing). What was less predictable was that the conservative backlash against this attitude should be so strong (what’s with those fundies?). The upshot is that the country’s Anglican church is breaking apart, mirroring the strife in the worldwide Anglican communion (all the fault of those evil socons who just wouldn’t go along quietly).

In 2002 the diocese of New Westminster (which includes Vancouver) became the first in the world to authorise the blessing of same-sex partnerships (and all was well with the world). Conservatives object that homosexuality is harshly condemned in several verses in the Bible (you know, that book of ancient myths and poetry). Liberals call this scriptural fundamentalism and note that being gay is not a matter of choice (that is to say, they noted a well-known fact that everybody knows. Don’t bother us with such matters of proof regarding such a complex issue, please). In an uneasy compromise (it wasn’t uneasy or a compromise, but we’ll put it in anyway and see if you notice), the 1998 Lambeth Conference—a once-in-a-decade gathering of Anglican bishops—declared that homosexual acts were incompatible with scripture but that gays were loved by God. In an effort to preserve unity (picture the millions of Anglicans reluctantly waiting for those Anglofundies to catch up to the modern world), the communion has called for a moratorium on blessing same-sex unions (sigh).

It carries on, but I don’t think I’ll bother with any more.

Actually, what has surprised me is how many MSM articles are not like this one.

Correct, unlike this one, they tend to have a bias based on being closer to home, as it were. All this article does is lay out that there is a fight on for property, that Canada is generally a liberal country, and the vast majority of Canadians do not visit a church on a regular basis.

Obviously the author hasn’t read the latest pamphlet on homosexuality given out by the APA which de-emphasises the biological argument and affirms a client’s right to self-determination – acknowledging that sexual preferences can change. NARTH has the info. Some people are so behind the times.

Gee Peter, I wouldn’t have read this article if the wasn’t working, which it is, thank you

The thing that strikes me is that Anglicans were, in fact, darn near the last people to adopt any kind of policy on same-sex matters. The courts led the charge, and one of the reasons that the number of church same-sex blessings in New Westminister is in single digits is that legal marriage arrived first – the Ontario court challenge was mounted in the year 2000.

Maybe some of you “bloggers” out there can tell me the truth of this matter.
On the website quoted above, there is a little icon that says “report abuse” OR something similar. I have noticed the same little icon on several other websites where one can enter a comment.
The strange thing I have noticed is that this little Icon has shown up on only “liberal” or GLTB publications.
Does this type of icon show up on conservative publications? I would like to know. If it doesn’t, then could this be construed as a method of flagging those moralistic, terrible conservatives who dare to have the nerve to speak up with the truth.

Why was it “less predictable” that there would be a consevative backlash in our denomination? Where did the assumption come from that the Anglican Church would always go along with the culture? It seems to me it was assumed that as the laws of the land changed so would we. So much for “God is the same yesterday, today and forever.”

#8 Gerry – that would just be a feature of the software, to alert someone to an inappropriate post. “Inappropriate” can mean offering Ninetendo games in a PS2 forum, for example. It only brings things to the site owner/moderator’s attention, anyway, not to the FBI.

Henry: Thanks for the info….I’ll try to keep from selling nintendo games. Actually I made a comment on a liberal site in the USA and the red flag went up, I guess I have been tagged by that site as being an “unwanted” contributor……That’s the way it goes!
