ANiC News Release

Disappointing, but sadly not surprising. –ed

The Anglican Network in Canada and representatives of the parishes of St Hilda’s (Oakville. Ontario) and St George’s Lowville (Milton, Ontario) were in discussions again today with representatives from the Niagara Diocese of the Anglican Church of Canada.

While the diocese and the parishes reached agreement on many items, there was no interim agreement reached on arrangements for Sunday services.

As a result, the matter will be heard tomorrow in the Ontario Supreme Court of Justice, 45 Main St. E, Hamilton. No specific time has been set, but we understand it could be as early as 10am.

It’s hard to credit that a diocese could go to a secular court over Sunday services for goodness sake! Shameful is the word, I think.

We knew this was going to court…how sad that one of Canada’s most respected churches (used to be) has sunk to the level of secular courts……Look out TEC’s ++Katharin , ++Hiltz wants to share your spotlight .

Excerpted from an article on the residential schools suit:

“Archbishop Michael Peers, primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, said that the $16 million cap exceeds the assets of the national church, and it is likely that the more wealthy dioceses will be asked to make contributions.”

Interesting. The wording of this article makes it sound as if individual parishes are NOT assets of the national church.
