Yesterday, 2nd December, Bishop Don ordained two new deacons – Dr Ken Deeks and Gary Stobbs (Gary is on the left of the picture below, Ken is on the right).

Bishop Don with two new deacons
(Apologies for the picture quality but I have had to reduce the original picture considerably to fit it in this post)

The service was held in a Pentecostal Assemblies building in Abbotsford, BC. Rev Sean Love and Rev Dr Archie Pell presented the two ordinands, Bishop Donald Harvey presided and Bishop Malcolm Harding preached.

Rev Ed Hird (ACiC), Rev Paul Orritt (St Stephens, Oak Harbor, Washington – under Diocese of Recife) were also on the platform. No bishops or clergy currently within the ACoC participated.

This arrangement was intentional to avoid further inflaming the situation with the ACoC. What is most important to the Network is continuing in the Great Commission, which was our Lord’s charge in Matthew 28:

Matthew 28 v18-20
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

UPDATE: Here is a short video from ACiC that includes the ordination:

So glad to see that Paul Orritt is still around. I wondered where he had gone to.

Paul’s down in Washington State, in the Oak Harbour (Seattle) area. He was in the Seattle Times earlier this year (possibly last year) in an article about the arrangement which had been made to share the buildings which had previously housed the TEC parish. The parish split, and both groups were to continue worshipping in the same space. I haven’t heard anything recently if this arrangement has held.

This is only the begining. Since I have become more vocal in my support of Essentials I have been made more aware of those supporting orthodoxy. Most are silent feeling pressured by the Vocal Minority and feel alone and without support. That support is becoming more visable here as +Malcolm is our previous bishop and highly respected and admired and his ‘re-alignment’ has suddenly made it a local issue. The liberal songbook seems to be written by Bp Ingram and sometimes it is hard to remain pragmatic. I do not doubt that if a church is planted here it will fill with those who identify their Anglicanism with pre-BAS days.
