You know when you annoy the Anglican Journal, which is as close as possible to an in-house Church publication, you may not have had the best public relations day ever. Leanne Larmondin wrote a stinging editorial today in the daily Journal publication (which does not seem to be up on the net) complaining about the decision to exclude the press (although not observers) from the SSB conversation. She pretty much made the same point as mine yesterday about how this looks like the church has something to hide.
For those non-delegates who could go in, they were repeatedly warned not to say a thing. Bp Don Harvey said he felt honoured to be singled out so, as he was one of the only observers sitting on the floor
. The whole emphasis was one of control, though I think it rather backfired.
From what I can gather, the voices on the floor are also well controlled. The Zacchaeus fellowship have again been denied voice on the floor of Synod (apparently they have enough advocates already, according to the powers that be), however other voices, such as Dean Peter Elliot (a partnered gay man and current Proculator) are allowed to speak persuasively. Did that ever widening circle of inclusion develop a kink I wonder?

The Anglican Journal Daily newspaper is available online each day of synod (via a link from our own homepage, http://www.anglicanjournal.com ) :

Good Evening:
It is called by a simple name: hypocrisy!
In case you have not noticed, there is a very different rule for Dean Peter Elliott, and that rule is enforced by the many gay or lesbian bishops and clergy who remain firmly in the ‘closet’. It is also supported by the others, like Victoria Matthews, who speaks against the rank and file, but gives Elliott the ‘nod’ because he is who he is. First, declare WHO you are, then SPEAK the truth and then, most difficult of all, WALK IT!.
The General Synod would give credit to V. Putin in it’s hypocrisy, skewed politics and censorship.
Vote from a level playing field!
