Ash Wednesday- February 21, 2007.
It is now over 24 hours since the Dar es Salaam Primates Meeting Communiqué has
been released.
On this Ash Wednesday, as Christians around the world today begin a season of preparation for the celebration of the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus, we of Anglican Essentials Canada want to thank the many across Canada who fervently prayed and fasted for the Primates as they prepared for and held crucial meetings in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
We are grateful to God that, under such a heavy burden to give godly leadership, the Primates in their Communiqué have once again clearly affirmed Lambeth and biblical teaching. In an act of great mercy and grace the Primates have afforded The Episcopal Church (TEC) one last opportunity to repent and to wholeheartedly come back under Anglican life and teaching.
On a day when we are called to humble ourselves, we in Canada have again been reminded that we too share with TEC the responsibility for the breaking of the Communion. As we approach our General Synod, we too, by the clear implication of the document have been offered a solemn warning and a gracious invitation to provide the most clear assurances of our intention to live under Anglican teaching in that interdependent life with the Anglican Communion.
May the Lord bless us as a church with the grace to receive the opportunity of these days to enter into a season of humble repentance that we might enjoy the reality of restoration and newness of life that only the crucified and risen Lord Jesus Christ can bring.
